Raised in the Village of McCook by Raymond Tobolski, a Mayor of McCook, Jeffrey R. Tobolski was elected to the Cook County Board of Commissioners on November 2nd, 2010, after serving several local political positions in McCook, including taking over as Mayor after his father’s death in 2007.

In his first race for Cook County Board, Tobolski, a Democrat beat Bill Russ, Mayor of Brookfield, and Alderman Eddy Garcia of Northlake, with 55% of the vote during the primary. He was endorsed by the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2 and LiUNA, the Laborers’ International Union of North America.

Tobolski went on to defeat the incumbent County Commissioner Tony Peraica during the General Election in 2010. Peraica was arrested and charged with criminal damage after he was accused of vandalising Tobolski’s campaign signs. Peraica later filed a $2 million lawsuit over the charges.

For the 2011 Cook County budget, Tobolski championed a plan to add five countywide furlough days for non-vital services.

Cook County’s 16th District boundaries include Franklin Park, Northlake, Stone Park, Melrose Park, Maywood, Hillside, Westchester, Brookfield, North Riverside, Berwyn, Riverside, Cicero, Stickney, Forest View, Lyons, La Grange, Summit, Countryside, McCook, Bedford Park and the Archer Heights neighborhood in Chicago.

Tobolski’s father, Raymond, served in the McCook Fire Department and eventually became Chief of Police, prior to his mayoral term. He died in office. According to his campaign website, job creation is the most important issue for Tobolski. He’s also the Director of the West Central Municipal Conference of Mayors, the founder of the Lyons-McCook Business Association, and a member of both the Aging Well Connections and the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Prior to being an elected official, Tobolski worked for the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company for fifteen years as claims adjuster and investigator. He’s married to Cathleen Patterson and has one daughter, Emily.
