b. July 31, 1951

Illinois, State Representative (1985-)

A librarian for the University of Illinois Circle Campus (now University of Illinois-Chicago), Flowers met then Mayor Harold Washington in early 1984, a meeting that impressed him enough to recruit her to run for State Representative later that year. With his endorsement, Flowers won the race and became a stead advocate for Chicago's under-privileged.

Practically a South Side institution, Flowers has not had a serious ballot opponent in many years.
