An unofficial group of aldermen who push for good government issues, the Paul Douglas Alliance (named after the late liberal U.S. Senator from Illinois) was formed in 2011 as a counterweight to the Progressive Caucus. The group occasionally meets informally but tends to draw together on some budget issues and to move legislation in Council. More than anything, the group defines itself versus the Progressive Caucus interns of its consistent support of Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
