Chicago, 41st Ward Democratic Committeeman (2016-)
A veteran firefighter for the Village of Elmwood Park in suburban Cook County, Heneghan was a Firefighter union negotiator and member of a Local School Council when he decided to run for 41st Ward Democratic Committeeman. While he claims he never had a relationship with the Ward party organization, he quickly garnered the support of powerful local labor organizations and the endorsement of the outgoing Committeeman Mary O'Connor.
O'Connor's election campaign essentially became a fight between him and former city worker Andrew DeVito, who had the endorsement of sitting Ald. Anthony Napolitano, an avowed Republican. The fact that DeVito's chief endorsement came from a member of the GOP never worked in his favor, leading to Heneghan's easy victory 59-34-7% in a three-way race.
Since his election, Heneghan has publicly clashed with Napolitano on a series of local development issues, including placement of a medical marijuana facility. It seems he could be warming up for a 2019 campaign.
