Illinois Republican Party, Chair (2014-)
Cook County, Commissioner (2006-)
Hanover Township, Trustee (1984-1997)
Hanover Township, Highway Commissioner (1997-2006)
At 28-years old, Schneider, who in 1984 was elected as a Hanover Township Trustee, became the youngest serving township official in Illinois. Elected to the Cook County Board in 2006, Timothy O. Schneider, one of the few Republicans on the Board, lead the fight to repeal President Todd Stroger’s sales tax increase, tightened contribution limits for companies that do business with Cook County, and sought to minimize workers compensation fraud by requiring injured workers submit to recorded interviews detailing the accident that led to their injury. In 2015, Comm. Schneider sponsored a resolution opposing a property tax increase to fill the 2016 budget gap.
In 2014, Schneider was elected Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, replacing Jack Dorgan, who resigned to join Bruce Rauner's campaign for governor. Schneider was supported by Dorgan and Rauner. Schneider first sought the state party chairmanship in 2013, after Pat Brady stepped down after he was criticized by fellow Illinois Republicans for his support of same-sex marriage. Schneider tried to unify the party by focusing on fiscal not social issues, which he said fractured the party. As Chair of the Illinois GOP, Schneider has recently been put to task rallying Illinois Republicans around the party’s controversial presidential nominee, Donald Trump.
He also serves as a general partner and owner of The Golf Club of Illinois in Algonquin and Waterworks Car Wash in Elgin.
