Eddie Reyes

Cook County, 8th District Commissioner (2009-2014)

Getting his political start as chief of staff for then-Ald. Rey Colon, Eddie Reyes became an Illinois state trooper, later serving as bodyguard for Gov. Rod Blagojevich and then Gov. Pat Quinn.

in 2009, when Cook County Commissioner Roberto Maldonado left office to become 26th Ward Alderman, 33rd Ward Democratic Committeeman Richard Mell backed Reyes to replace Maldonado in an appointment process by area Democratic Committeeman. Reyes' appointment was up in the air until 31st Ward Democratic Committeeman Joseph Berrios aligned with Mell to back him.

Then, in 2014, as the political proxy fight between Berrios and State Rep. Luis Arroyo grew, Reyes' seat was targeted by Arroyo for his son, Luis Arroyo, Jr.. Berrios and Mell, distracted by an intense fight elsewhere to support Berrios' daughter, State Rep. Toni Berrios (which was ultimately unsuccessful), were unable to support Reyes with ground troops, giving Arroyo, Jr. the election.
