Jackie Collins

Illinois, State Senator (2003-)

A one-time news editor at WBBM-TV (CBS2), Jackie Collins joined the 1983 African-American voter drive that helped elect Harold Washington, then went on to work as press secretary for Rev. Jesse Jackson and Cong. Gus Savage. A member of Fr. Michael Pfleger's parish, St. Sabina Catholic Church, Collins helped publicize a number of the church's signature campaigns.

In 2002, running in an open seat created by redistricting, Collins was elected to State Senate, handily defeating her opponent, 84-16%.
