Chicago's LGBT Caucus formed shortly after the 2015 elections, when a total of 5 gay aldermen were elected to council. They pledged to lobby for budget issues involving health care and homelessness, which they said disproportionately affect the LGBT community, and equality and fairness in education. Ald. Thomas Tunney, the first openly gay man elected to City Council, chairs the caucus.
